Building a Home, Building a Future: Donations at Work for the Wright Family

Writer: FCHFHFCHFH

At Fayette County Habitat for Humanity, we believe that every family deserves a place to call home—a place where they can create memories, feel safe, and build a future. Right now, thanks to the generosity of supporters like you, we’re making this dream a reality for the Wright family. Their new home is currently under construction, and we’re thrilled to share how your donations are helping bring this house to life.

The Wright Family’s Journey

The Wright family is a wonderful example of what happens when a community comes together to support one another. Johnny Wright and his children, Demarion, Billy, Sam, and Julie, are all excited to move into a safe, stable, and affordable home. Johnny works two jobs to support his family—he’s the lead prep chef at Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas and an assistant cook at the Schulenburg Regency on his days off. Despite working hard to provide for his family, Johnny and his children have been living in a 2-bedroom apartment, which has limited space and does not offer the security or comfort they need.

The Wright family’s new home will change everything for them. Thanks to Habitat’s homeownership program, which requires families to put in “sweat equity” by helping build their homes, the Wrights are actively involved in the construction process. The hard work they’re putting into their future is a testament to their determination and resilience, and with each board laid, they’re building not just a home, but a brighter future.

Your Donations at Work

The Wright family’s home build is a direct result of the donations we’ve received from individuals, businesses, and organizations in our community. Your generous contributions are funding this project, and they’re already making a profound difference in the lives of the Wrights. Here’s how your donations are helping:

1. Purchasing Materials: Every single piece of material used to build the Wright family’s home—from the foundation to the roof—has been made possible by your donations. Funds have been used to buy quality materials that will ensure the home is not only beautiful but also safe and energy-efficient. Thanks to your support, the Wrights will have a durable home that will last for years to come.

2. Supporting Volunteer Labor: Habitat’s volunteer network plays a vital role in every home build. Whether it’s laying the foundation, framing walls, or putting up drywall, volunteers are on-site every step of the way. Donations help cover the costs of providing tools, safety equipment, and support for our dedicated volunteers. Without these crucial resources, it would be difficult for us to assemble such a strong team of people working to help families like the Wrights.

3. Covering Construction Costs: Beyond materials and volunteers, donations help cover the costs of construction, including permits, inspections, and the skilled labor needed to ensure the home is built to code and ready for the Wright family to move in. Your support helps us keep the cost of building affordable for the Wrights, making this homeownership opportunity possible.

4. Building Stability for the Wright Family: The Wright family is excited to move from their cramped apartment to a house of their own, and your donation is providing the stability they need to thrive. By offering an affordable mortgage with 0% interest, Habitat ensures that Johnny and his children will not only have a roof over their heads but will be able to build long-term financial stability and security.

The Ripple Effect of Your Support

The Wright family’s new home will not only transform their lives, but it will also have a positive impact on the entire community. When families like the Wrights receive stable housing, they can focus on education, health, and personal growth. This leads to stronger, healthier communities for everyone.

Your donations are not just building homes—they’re building futures. The Wrights’ children will have a safe environment to learn and grow. Johnny will have more time and energy to focus on his family’s well-being, knowing they have a secure place to live. And the ripple effect of your support will be felt in their lives for generations to come.

Call to Action: Help Us Keep Building

The Wright family’s home is just one example of the incredible things your donations make possible. But there are more families out there, just like the Wrights, who need our help. Your continued support ensures that we can keep building homes, changing lives, and strengthening communities.
